The Shyamalavani Community Radio Station seeks to empower the community especially the community that resides around the Radio Station campus, by bringing about improvement in their quality of life; foster a sense of brotherhood and encourage the use of modern technology to bring about progress.
The CRS seeks to expand opportunities for people, encourage the participation of the community, especially the students community, and increase their participation in health, hygiene and sanitary related advancements.
It was sixty four years ago Dinamalar, the national Tamil daily, began to stand out not just a provider but a society builder by making education more meaningful and employable. The newspaper is currently published from ten centres in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry with a circulation of 1.5 million per day.
The Publisher of the newspaper and educationist, Dr. R. Lakshmipathy, took up the task of empowering the community around the campus and Shyamalavani CR was set up.
The focus areas for the Community Radio Station are infant care, education with employment potential, agriculture and women’s’ rights, to ultimately result in better living.
"Saalai Santhippu" - Responses on the Road
It is a concept oriented program to bring out the life style of the various village community people and the environment in which they are living. In respect of this program, the community people are of the view that this program is very much useful for them to share the information about their villages and to claim certain basic facilities for their comfortable living.
In the “Salai Santhippu” which is a regular phone-in live programme, the community people are voluntarily and willingly participating. It is a platform for them to share their views, suggestions and their talents etc.
